Jabo

Jabo is a Belgian-Moroccan producer originally from Aalst, a city known for its carnival chaos, bumper-car melodies and raw dancefloor energy. Combined with his North African roots, this dual background has always informed his music: rhythmic, fun and unapologetically club-driven. His productions blend bass-driven club music with loop-based Arab and North African rhythms, placing him among the first wave of diaspora producers in Europe to explore these influences. This approach, which he referred to as “Moroccan Bass,” defined his well-received debut EP Harissa, released on Lowup Records in 2015. Its follow-up, Sonic Mizwid, introduced a more focused and stripped-down sound. A steady stream of releases followed on labels such as Lowup Records, Byrd Out, Crown Collective and Generation Bass. Between Sonic Mizwid and Bub El-Ghum, Jabo experimented with harder sounds in his Moroccan Rave Series, blending Belgian 90s rave and early hard dance with Moroccan chaabi and percussive patterns. These explorations culminated in Bub El-Ghum (2020), an energetic mix of Eurodance, rave and Middle Eastern rhythms. Recently, Jabo returned with a new EP on Ghent-based SAWNA Records, delivering a louder and more percussive club sound inspired by Belgian jumpstyle and Arab rhythmic elements. Jabo’s DJ-sets are eclectic and high-energy, moving fluidly between bass, (deconstructed) club, rave and hyperpop, all with a distinct SWANA twist. He leans into rhythm and percussive drive, blending styles in a way that feels both playful and intentional, always locked into the dancefloor. Over the years, he’s brought that sound to international festivals like ADE, Lowlands, Tomorrowland and Motel Mozaïque, as well as iconic venues such as Paradiso and Ancienne Belgique, building a reputation as a versatile and experienced DJ who knows how to keep things surprising without losing the groove.
