Music industry and nightlife veteran J-Cush, founded his flagship label Lit City Trax, & event series Lit City Rave, in NYC in 2012. New York born, Cush spent the early 2000s in London, and was based back and forth between the two in the 2010s. J-Cush was 1/4 of Warp Records' signed Future Brown - “springing from the same loose scene that spawned DIS Magazine and Hood By Air, Future Brown are a supergroup like no other” (-Dazed Digital). Additionally, J-Cush was D Double E's DJ as well as the last DJ for his legendary grime crew Newham Generals, prior to the crew disbanding. During a brief hiatus from music, J-Cush established an award winning, small-batch cannabis brand, Tasty Selections. Returning to music, he founded his new label/event series, Nowhere in late 2024, releasing multiple projects from artist-producer Uche in 2025. J-Cush has curated events and partnered with the likes of the Museum of Modern Art, Telfar, The Fader, On The Radar, Rinse.FM, Perez Art Museum Miami, Carhartt WIP, Vice, Pitchfork and Complex amongst others, as well as having toured Asia, Europe and North America extensively. Lit City Trax was was home to genre-defining artists across a diverse club music spectrum from DJ Rashad, DJ Spoko, DJ Marfox, Traxman, Uniiqu3 amongst others. Whilst running the label, J-Cush spent much of the 2010s working to establish a plethora of influential regional club musics - often intricately involved with their international proliferation. His extended resumé includes working with key artists in Grime, Jersey Club, Chicago's Juke & Footwork scenes, South Africa's Bacardi House (a pre-cursor to both Gqom and Amapiano), Lisbon's Kuduro/Batida scene, as well as working early on with UK Drill's most infamous 67 and Zone 2 crews. Having managed the then GhettoTeknitianz and DJ Rashad, Cush led the crews' integral rebrand to the now world-famous Teklife. Whilst managing Bacardi House founder DJ Spoko, Cush brought DJ Spoko to co-headline alongside Black Coffee to New York's Central Park Summer Stage series, for a seminal event marking the 20th anniversary since Apartheid's end in South Africa, which marked the two legends that helped lay the foundations for the ever popular Afrohouse to meet. At the time, Afrohouse was yet unnamed, Spoko's infectious sound went on to lay the ground work for what became Gqom and Amapiano, as well as influencing Black Coffee's productions heavily. A Rinse.FM resident alumnus, J-Cush always has his finger on the pulse of burgeoning scenes. Hosting regular guest mixes from across the globe and MC-heavy sets on his radio show, his club sets are known for seamlessly weaving together the best in a diverse tapestry of global sounds with rare and unheard cuts from far and wide. Lit City Rave "throw some of the city's best parties", proclaimed The Village Voice. J-Cush's rave series found it's home at the infamous 285 Kent in New York, which had remained a venue exclusively for bands prior to Lit City Rave reimagining it as a club space for DJs and MCs. Beyond NYC, Lit City Rave traveled to Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, Tokyo, Berlin, London, Los Angeles and beyond. Throwing era-defining nights, guests included: Skepta, Tink, Kelela, D Double E, DJ Slimzee, Novelist, Jammer, DJ Rashad, DJ Deeon, DJ Spoko, AJ Tracey, Total Freedom (aka Bobby Beethoven), DJ Marfox, DJ Oneman, Uniiqu3, DJ MikeQ, DJDS, DJ Sliink, Vjuan Allure, Kode 9, DJ Manny, Bok Bok, RP Boo, Nguzunuguzu, Addison Groove, Om Unit, Double Dutch, DJ TiGa, Drippin, Visionist and countless others.
