When Isobel was a kid, growing up in a village in the South of England, her grandparents gave her a portable radio cassette recorder, with which she spent countless hours listening to music. Her Sundays revolved, religiously, around the Top 40 chart, which she would listen to in its entirety, whilst recording her favorite songs & editing out the parts when the DJ talked over the music. As she got older & stayed up later listening to the radio, it was inevitable that Isobel would discover John Peel’s late night show, & the “alternative” music that he played, including electronic, appealed to her so profoundly, that staying awake listening under the covers became the Sunday night ritual & shaped her taste for music. In her late teens, during the school summer breaks, Isobel would vacation with friends to the Balearic island of Mallorca, where she embraced the nightlife during the height of acid house. In 1990, Isobel moved to the North of England to further her education, where, to her delight, the student union hosted raves on campus & one of her flatmates was a DJ. Once done with her studies, she got a job & moved to London where she spent endless nights dancing at nightclubs, warehouse raves, house parties etc. Whenever she could, she would make the annual pilgrimage to Glastonbury Music Festival, where she rarely left the dance tent. In the late nineties, Isobel took some time out to travel & met & fell in love with Joey Hannah who was, at the time, based in Quito, Ecuador & about to play his first DJ gig. Because of the nation’s financial crisis & eruption of Volcano Pichincha, Isobel & Joey made a hasty departure from Ecuador, & arrived in New York during Twilo’s hey-days & have since settled in the throng of the city. It wasn’t until summer 2010, after attending “Movement” in Detroit, that Isobel had the revelation that she wanted to DJ. Joey showed her the ropes & she was instantly hooked. Joey Hannah is currently on a hiatus, whilst Isobel continues to plug away at her craft &, over the years, has played at TBA Brooklyn, Halcyon, Verboten, The Delancey, The National Underground & Karma, to name but a few, plus various underground dance parties. Isobel has also played live on Global Mixx Radio & has had guest mixes featured on NYC Techno & Elastic Beatz NYC podcasts, Dali’s Groove Therapy Sessions & CGNY.
