Ibn Itaka is a Puerto-Rican/Congolese label owner, DJ and record producer currently based between Puerto Rico, London and Spain. He is a co-founder of independent record label Abu Recordings. Since the release of his debut music project 'Colores' in 2019, Ibn Itaka has developed a reputation as an eclectic, worldly and versatile DJ and producer. Working with a wide variety of musicians from all over the world across many different genres. Building a style which he describes now as "world electronic dance fusion". Along with being a producer as a DJ Ibn has been able to showcase his music in venues across the globe in cities such as Dubai, Seville, Paris, Kinshasa, London, San Juan, Montreal, Toronto and New York amongst others. Having got his start in music in 2012 after dropping out of business school in Canada while interning at NASA Ibn's journey in the music industry has been a very peculiar one having at this point covered three continents giving him a chance to be inspired and tapped into many underground music scenes from all over the world. Starting in Puerto Rico where he was born and was first exposed to music production to New York where he learnt about and produced jazz, Neo soul and hip hop but in 2021 after spending almost half a year in Democratic Republic of Congo he truly discovered and fine tuned his vision and sound. This period was followed by time spent living in London experimenting with new styles of african electronic genres like Amapiano, Afro House, Batida and Gqom blended with jazz and industrial sounds.Ibn has worked and is currently working on collaborations with a number of international artists including. Julian Makara of KOKOKO (DRC), Saint Levant (Palestine/ Algeria), Kamaal Williams (London), Carolina Oliveros of Combo Chimbita (Colombia), Sheila Maurice Gray of KOKOROKO (UK/Sierra Leone), Azekel (UK/Nigeria), Fasina (UK/Nigeria), MIKE (USA/UK), Felukah (Egypt), The Synaptik (Jordan) , Isaiah Barr of Onyx Collective (USA) and Wiki (USA/PR). Itaka’s work as a record producer has been featured in Remezcla, Wonderland,Notion, The Fader, Mass Appeal, He has also performed at various venues and radio stations around the world which include WorldWide FM (UK), NTS radio (UK), Radio Red (San Juan, Puerto Rico), Hotel Radio Paris (Paris, France), Balamii (UK), The Lot Radio, Half Moon (Brooklyn, USA), Cha Cha Bar (Kinshasa, Congo) Piano’s , Basquiat Bottle, Kind Regards (NYC), Dawa Fest, La Flech D'or (Paris, France) York University (Toronto, Canada) Kaffeine (Montreal, Canada). He has also ventured into producing and scoring short films his 1st short film “Boy Untitled” won Toronto independent film fest and his second film “Toque de Queda en Macondo” shot in Puerto Rico during the pandemic, was premiered by the Fader in 2020. Ibn Itaka is currently working on his next project “Agencia Afro Espacial" spring 2023 which was recorded and produced between his times in Kinshasa, Italy, Egypt, Spain, Istanbul, Paris, and London
