Huggs
Biografía
Huggs hails from Montreal - the same hotbed of talent that produced Tiga, A-Trak, Chromeo, Akufen, Arcade Fire & Wolf Parade (to name a few). The skill and selection Huggs brings to the turntables reflect that city's bubbling mess of ideas and overflowing creative energy. With a musical background that had both feet equally in hip hop and underground dance before - or rather, when - that was the norm, his ability to connect the dots between various musical styles and tempos anticipated the open format dj scene which has dominated much of the 2000's. Pre-disposed to figure at the center of the dance party trend (thanks MySpace!), this all culminated fall '06 with the six week Hugg Life Tour which hit major and minor markets alike. NYC, Philly, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Calgary, Vancouver, Seattle, SF, LA and many more were all demolished and Huggs returned home to Montreal - the internet ablaze - established as one to watch.
Things continued to grow quickly in 2007/8 with more than 175 shows each year. Huggs opened for acts like The Police & The Roots in Montreal while hitting the road to share stages all over North America with names like Justice, Diplo, Soulwax, Mstrkrft, DJ AM, Craze and Skream and dj parties from San Diego to Shambhala with peers like DJ Day, Dave Nada, Contra, Eli Escobar and Top Billin. 2009 shows no sign of letting up, with dates planned for Europe, China and South America. Recent highlights include the Dim Mak Collection Tour in November & December of '08, the official After Party for the Shepard Fairey Supply & Demand Exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston in February of this year, and spearheading the hotly anticipated Oh Canada! events at both SXSW in Austin and WMC in Miami with fellow canucks Jokers of The Scene, Nacho Lovers, Smalltown DJ's and Skratch Bastid.
With new challenges and warmer climes in mind Huggs relocated to Los Angeles in January 2008 and is now an integral part of that city's ongoing dance-music-splosion. Inspired by this new home base but feeling that just dj'ing is no longer enough, both production and starting a label became the logical next step. The label Disca Bueno was set up in 2010 and its first release "The Best Of Me/City Full Of LIghts" from Adelaide, Australia's Alexander Holland was released in December of 2011, get support from Treasure Fingers, Soul Clap, Classixx, Azari & III, Jacques Renault and many more. Plenty of releases are planned for Disca Bueno in 2012 including the debut single from Huggs. Stay tuned!
