Biografía

Discovering world sounds and revealing musicalities that were overlooked in their time are Priscilla Cavalcante's specialties. The Brazilian DJ, radio host, researcher, record shop & label owner, brings to her sets sonic narratives ranging from fresh and tropical to nostalgic and obscure through a refined selection of Baile Funk, Electro, Freestyle, Pop-rap, Soul, Boogie, Balearic, and Africanisms. Born in 1979 in Fortaleza, northeast of Brazil, she lived in Amsterdam for close to 20 years, a location that enabled musical expeditions to various countries. "I always tried to assimilate the music of wherever I went. When abroad, the first thing I do is to visit records stores and dig," she says. It makes sense for music to be a defining element of Pris's life. Growing up around a father who used to collect vinyl records and a music-oriented family, she eventually found her way to neighborhoods Baile Funk parties in Fortaleza, back in 1993. In 2000, she started the duo Forma Noise with multi-instrumentalist Dustan Gallas. Together, they produced electronic music with Brazilian beats, releasing an album through the Dutch label Disco Voador. Their version of Tom Jobim's Insensatez was featured in the Boss-a-Tronic compilation (2001) by Warner and became the signature of Summer in Europe that year. A year later she founded a label called The89 and released 150 copies of a white label by Dustan's moniker - El Presidente Hi-Fi's vinyl EP "Drop Your Guns", and Forma Noise's EP "Venus Samba Club", granting invites to perform at main venues across The Netherlands and Europe. For over a decade, Pris stepped out the stage to work behind the scenes at some major dutch festivals and parties. Back to the scene in 2012, "House of Pris," is the outcome of lots of time spent sorting out records acquired during her travels and creating podcasts from them. From that, her sets were broadcasted by radio stations from all over the globe such as Red Light Radio, Operator, Internet Public Radio, Dublab, Rinse FM, NTS, at venues like Paradiso, Melkweg, Radion, OT301, to name a few. After moving to the USA in 2017, House of Pris performed at iconic stages like Bedrock, Gold Line (LA), Moodring (NYC), ATV Records, and Floyd (Miami), Boiler Room, III Points. Her sets are musical patchworks inspired by the vibe of wherever she's in. "There is no formula for creating them." Nowadays, next to deejaying, Pris leads the creative direction/operations of Concreta Sala, a record shop, label, and event production company, based in Miami - FL. In 2021, the label released their first vinyl compilation PROIBIDŒ vol.1 reissuing El Presidente Hi-Fi - Drop Your Guns with 3 new re-works, exclusively distributed by the dutch label Bordello a Parigi. Concreta Sala features talents from all over the globe through their bass-oriented party PROIBIDÆ and collaborates worldwide.
