HONESTY (UK)
Biografía
The music of HONESTY emerged unexpectedly, instinctually, almost unconsciously out of informal weekly gatherings at a Leeds studio space called The Nave. It was here where the collective’s core members: George Mitchell, Matt Peel, Josh Lewis and Imi Holmes were ripped back from the brink, compelled to create music by the sort of organic artistic spark that only comes with truly egoless collaboration. Working with a cast of featured vocalists, they set out to survey the unconventional depths of contemporary electronic music, UK bass, garage, shoegaze, ambient and everything in between. Never quite landing anywhere long enough to beboxed in.
Songs like debut double A-side singles “U&I” and “TUNE IN TUNE OUT” pulse with the exhilaration of discovery, totally uninhibited by the weight of anything that’s come before. It is the sound of rebirth from a group who, in George’s case, thought they had given up on music forever. This genre-less, expectation-less approach results in songs that mirror the communal bond of passing the aux cord at a party, or diving into an expertly curated, electrifyingly diverse playlist.
These are the boundaries that HONESTY have set for themselves - the sound can go where it wants, as long as the sentiment supports it. Making this music, in the way they’re making it, is about much more than mining for renewed creative expression; there is a concerted effort to harness the vitality ofnew beginnings, and the urgency it demands-you are here, right now,and that’s all that matters.
