Hof (De)
Biografía
Hailing from Frankfurt, Germany, DJ and producer HOF has served as an indispensable talent across the dance music spectrum in his 25 year-long career. With a discography larger than most, which has seen his releases chartered via leading labels Sony Music, Atlantic Records and Spinnin’ Records, to name a few, HOF is now returning to his roots and building a back-catalogue of cuts that nod to his early years in techno. Founded on extensive theoretic knowledge and immense musicality, this steady evolution of sound has ensured his continued relevance in our ever-changing music scene, making him one of the notable figures in the progression of our beloved genre.
Following an early introduction to music which saw him cut his teeth on the guitar, HOF began collecting vinyl records to road-test in his bedroom mixes and purchased his first synthesisers and an Atari computer to build his own tracks. Testament to his quick learning skills and innate ear for music, HOF signed his first record contract the following year at just 16 years old. The release opened the door to a host of opportunities, including collaborative projects with A*S*Y*S (Frank Ellrich). With an acute focus on hardware synths and the 303 Acid sound, HOF was creating something unique and discernibly his own.
Revived in his pursuit of new sounds following a creative hiatus, HOF’s latest productions champion the golden era of German techno and its raw sensibilities, whilst breeding it with contemporary sound design elements. Initiating his newfound perspective on techno with immediate success, HOF joined the “Fe Chrome Crafted Vol.3” compilation with his track “The Return” in 2021. The slickly made offering served as an emphatic debut release for his techno discography and assumed its #20 position in Beatport’s Peak-Time techno chart. Returning to Fe Chrome the same year, HOF delivered his mammoth single “Dark Passenger” for the Frankfurt-based techno imprint. The cut proved to be a #1 hit in the Peak-Time techno chart and received worldwide acclaim; entering the touring playlists of the genre’s elite and becoming a staple track for 2021’s pandemic-induced livestream culture. It subsequently ended the year standing at #12 on the best-selling techno releases. Clocking hours in the studio for his next opus, the established talent was tapped once again by Fe Chrome for his 2-track “Acid Storm/Outer World” EP earlier this year, presenting another slice of percussive-dominant techno that climbed Beatport’s peak-time album chart to reach #24. Combining classic acid sounds with clever melodies and driving basslines in a modern guise, HOF’s
growing collection of records have caught the attention and support of many top-tier artists, the likes of ANNA, Wehbba, Monika Kruse, Nakadia and Hi-Lo, to name a few. Like any long-serving artist, HOF is fuelled by creativity, change and progression, and despite the success of his acid techno cuts, his sound aims to explore the length and breadth of underground music.
Shaped by Frankfurt’s legendary clubs OMEN and Dorian Gray, as well as the city’s long-standing sentiment for techno, HOF’s DJing career has proved equally as important and successful as his studio endeavours. Prior to his newfound musical direction, the electronic music stalwart graced the stages of some of the world’s most iconic festivals, including ULTRA Europe, Umagination Festival and Open Beatz, as well as securing residencies and club spots with the likes of Cocoon Club Frankfurt, Bootshaus Cologne, 3001 Duesseldorf, Undercurrent and Jimmy Woo.
With his sights set on the next steps in his techno career, HOF looks ahead to another release
on Fe Chrome later in the year and will subsequently join the esteemed underground music
hub for their label tour to round out 2022.
