Markele Cullins (aka. Hoeteps) is an interdisciplinary artist and DJ born in Baltimore, MD and based between Los Angeles and Baltimore. Their multidisciplinary practice combines traditional mediums and new media to ask questions about human connection to nature, spirituality, and time. Their work is an intimate offering deeply informed and influenced by Afrofuturism, mysticism, love, and family history. Visual art and music are inextricably entwined as they informed each other in their practice. Under the moniker Hoeteps, they have performed in Baltimore, New York, DC, LA, Europe and more. Their DJ style is inspired by Baltimore club icons like Dj K-Swift, Rod-Lee, and Miss Tony as well as attending hardstyle raves as an early teen and seeing the likes of Anger Fist and Showtek. In every set they seeks to convey the transcendental and community oriented aspect of music while creating a space that is safe and joyful for Black queer folks.
