London-based Queer DJ HENDERSON has always had a deep connection with music. With a background in Classical and Contemporary dance, they began training as a dancer age five, and have been working professionally as a dancer since 2015. As a result their relationship with dance music and club culture is intrinsically linked to a love of movement and understanding of the body. For HENDERSON, the dance floor provides a space for self expression, creativity and freedom, and as a DJ, their goal is to be a catalyst for these things; for the dancers on the floor to feel that euphoric release so tied to dancing at the rave. With a monthly show on Netil radio 'Good Smells' and a Bi monthly show on Threads 'Hawaiian Tropics' HENDERSON is exploring and experimenting with mixing an eclectic range of music. 'Good Smells' tends to hone in on high energy, melodic club sounds, with special guest DJ's joining them on certain months. Whilst 'Hawaiian Tropics' - which started out as their own Soundcloud mix series before moving to Threads - sees them explore more soft and soulful selections inspired by the different fragrance bottles in the Hawaiian tropic series. In the booth HENDERSON's diverse taste and multi-genre sets - spanning house, trance, electro, hard dance, prog house, techno and more - has allowed them to reach multiple areas of the London music scene. However, they always prioritise playing queer spaces as "that was where I was first felt accepted to be myself... its my family and always will be - I only wish there were more spaces for queer people to feel that level of freedom" Recently HENDERSON has helped start their own queer party 'Organics' along with fellow friend and DJ, Ophanim A.K.A Aphelion, bringing the fun of the 90s rave culture back to Bristol and London. Expect fun, silliness, euphoria and lots of hugging on the dance floor.
