Haider Masroor (born 1990), is a British electronic music artist, DJ, and founder of the Breaker Breaker Recordings record label. Born in Sheffield to Pakistani migrant parents, he became fascinated in music at an early age being exposed to a wide range of genres by his family. This ranged from Qawwali to Hip Hop and RnB, Jungle and Drum and Bass, and even classic Rock and Roll. After some troublesome teenage years that led to dropping out of school, he began to frequent and help out at a local record store called Studiobeatz. This led to him beginning to DJ and being involved in the inception of Bassline, an offshoot of Speed Garage popularised by the legendary Niche nightclub. He began to produce music under the tutelage of local music producers DJ Veteran and DJ Booda (formerly of Drum and Bass duo Mental Power) and eventually released his debut EP “The Lock Off EP” under the moniker DS1 in 2008. Following on from Bassline, he transitioned into producing Grime and was heavily influenced by the then burgeoning Dubstep scene. His music was picked up by DJ’s such as Plastician, Spooky Bizzle, and Starkey, which led to a release on the latter’s Slip Jockey record label entitled “Emotions, Colours and Spacefood” in 2012. The following year, he moved to London to study Music Computing at Goldsmiths. Whilst studying, he met fellow student Felix Weatherall (Ross From Friends) and launched the Breaker Breaker Recordings imprint with Weatherall’s debut EP “Alex Brown”. After a brief stint of being an artist manager, he moved to Berlin in 2017 to further pursue his music career. He released the first EP under his name Haider on Breaker Breaker in 2018 entitled “Do What You Love”. The EP consisted of 3 tracks, an electro track, a deep house track, and an acid house track. It was widely well received and caught the attention of Will Saul. The following year, he released the “10961” EP on Saul’s Aus Music record label. In 2020, he released a string of 3 EPs on Breaker Breaker, Aus Music and Mella Dee’s Warehouse Music record label. Despite being highly critically acclaimed, due to COVID restrictions and the closure of nightclubs worldwide, at the time of release the music wasn’t able to be heard in its intended context, on the dance floor. This precarious period of time for dance music led to a hiatus in which he spent time to “reflect on his artistic career and goals”. He still resides in Berlin, continuing to operate Breaker Breaker Recordings, and occasionally DJs at parties and on internet radio station Refuge Worldwide.
