Gulod Tanawin

Gulod Tanawin is an experimental electronic music and ritual performance collective founded by Filipino artists Reylinn McGrath and Simon Grefiel, working between Leyte (Philippines) and Vancouver and Montreal (Canada). The collective engages sonic art, live vocals, chanting, costume, and movement to create works understood as ceremonies rather than theatrical performances. Operating through an expanded and fluid membership, Gulod Tanawin de-emphasizes individual authorship in order to foreground ritual, sound, and collective presence. Their music combines Visayan ritual chants, field recordings, global dance music forms, and Filipino soundsystem culture—particularly budots—performed live using dub-informed mixing techniques. Movement is informed by Filipino Martial Arts (Arnis/Kali), shaping performances as embodied, time-based practices rooted in Southeast Asian ceremonial strategies and responsive to contemporary contexts.
