GARAN GARAN (Nublu NYC, Selectist TR, Vamonos IST) NYC / Istanbul based Garan Garan is best known for his mix of styles. Effortlessly blending sounds that range from minimal soul and psychedelic disco thrillers to jazzy house tunes. Garan began his musical journey as a record-digger, starting his first radio show at 12. He started performing with live acts such as Nicolas Jaar & Mulatu Astatke at the age of 13. After moving to Chicago for his studies he was heavily influenced by its soulful House music, dubby basslines and Jazzy chords. In 2016, he moved to NYC where he made a name for himself for both playing and hosting parties throughout the city. Notable events include playing at international events such as Detroit Love, Sonar and hosting a monthly event at the iconic jazz venue, NUBLU His monthly events have hosted exceptional jazz musicians and DJs drawing an impressive crowd with attendees such as Kamasi Washington, Bebel Gilberto, Anderson Paak, Cory Henry and Common. The acts included Sun Ra Arkestra, Robert Glasper, Nu Genea, Kail Alce, No Regular Play, Jitwam, Tomas Station, O.bee and more. The music ranged from Afro-Cuban jazz to Turkish psychedelic disco thrillers to minimal tecno. Having the pleasure of playing at international festivals and legendary venues from a young age, Garan has brought his experience in global sounds to hosting unique events in his hometown Istanbul featuring hand-picked performers known for their quality of sound, rather than cash-grabbing commercial names. Under the name 'Selectist', these events have been showcasing impressive artists such as Nu Guinea, Sassy J, Kai Alce, Eddie C and Paquita Gordon since October 2019. Selectist has molded into a production company that is currently in production for a TV Series due to air in 2022, one of which is about Music and Food. Garan has also been named the head of culture for GQ TR, and his latest endeavor was launching 'Vamonos'-- his own artistic utopia: an audiophile-club that doubles as a record store, gallery, coffee shop and studio.
