The dancefloor holds space for us and allows us to shape ourselves in the moment. Born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan and shaped by Detroit’s deep musical legacy, Fudz approaches his practice with a sense of responsibility to the culture(s) he came from. His work is both a personal expression and a contribution to the broader continuum of Detroit’s electronic music tradition, and the various cultural influences surrounding it. In pursuit of genuine musicality, Fudz found himself in all manner of audial spaces. Lebanese weddings in his childhood were his first visceral experiences with dance. As a young self-taught pianist, he moved on to study the craft of music in an academic setting, leading to countless performances in small combos and jazz big bands, choirs and vocal jazz groups, as well as a stint writing and playing in a local Funk group. Moving forward, Fudz craved a more intimate knowledge of sound anatomy. Jumping into dance music and audio production as a fresh adult, he fell head-over-heels for the club scene, attending local events and afterparties with friends, leading up to larger camping and out-of-state festivals, and finally, culminating in a degree in music technology from Wayne State University, where he honed his skills not only as an instrumentalist, but as a producer, sound engineer, and electronic performer. With major influences ranging from P-Funk and Drexciya to Limited Network, Interdimensional Transmissions and beyond, Fudz’s music is as much about emotional resonance and movement as it is about technical craft—always rooted in community, culture, and a deep respect for the dancefloor.
