Biografía

Jeff Hancock aka DJ Freefall has always had music in his life in some way or another. When he was in middle school he took some guitar lessons. He quickly quit taking guitar lessons after hearing Anthrax's seminal album "Among The Living" in 1987. He developed a penchant for hard, heavy and fast unrelenting drum - driven music. Freefall, at the time, was also into music from local and national punk and hardcore acts as well as vibing with the golden era hip hop of the time to round out his musical interests. These musical interests set the stage for what was to happen in a few years down the road. No stranger to the counterculture, having been a lifelong skateboarder, he instinctively always chose to take the road less traveled. One day in 1994, some friends of his asked if he'd like to attend a rave called "Emerald Forest'' featuring Deee- Lite. Needless to say, he went and had a truly unique musical experience after hearing a DJ On-E breakbeat set and an early Jungle set from DC Legend, Greag Sargent in the wee hours of the morning, he was absolutely hooked. Upon getting back from the rave the next day, he quickly sold his drum set and bought a DJ mixer and 2 belt-driven Gemini turntables and began putting in the work to build his skills as a Jungle DJ. Then, in 1995, everything really slid into place after attending one of DC's first local Jungle / Drum and Bass shows called "Rinse Out" thrown by the legendary 2 Tuff. Fast forward later in 1995 when DJ Trace released the Rollers Instinct remix of T. Powers "Mutant Jazz" Freefall had found his sound and that was the deep and dark rhythms of what was to be known as Tech Step. Freefall's DJ sets have always been technically proficient; intricate breakbeats melded with pulsating basslines have given him his signature sound that has constantly evolved and can be heard during any of his sets. In his almost 30 years of being intensely involved in the DMV Jungle / Drum and Bass scene, he's represented many crews including The Snowball Collective, Step Syndicate (founding member), Catalyst_DC (founding member) Resonate, TenureDC and Resonate: Dub Unit. Freefall is currently active with Rogers, his longtime Catalyst_DC collaborator and KodakDNB and Rogers with TenureDC. He's opened for countless stateside and international Jungle / Drum and Bass DJs to list.
