The humble beginnings of Fractal Mood are set in a laboratory for audiovisual experiments at Faculdade de Belas Artes de São Paulo (Sao Paulo Fine Arts College) in 2007. Joining their ideas since then, Henrique Anselmo Marciano and Guilherme Luchetti Picorelli combined in this duo different experiences on music and dynamic perspectives of sound. Naturally attracted to any kind of sound-making tool – from whistles to metal cans –, Picorelli started out as a percussionist on a school band of forró, traditional regional music with fast tempo. Three years past and we find him sliding bass lines in an indie rock band. In the meantime, he was taking piano lessons in a conservatory, where acoustics perceptions opened his mind to the intricate mechanics of sound. An 8 year-old Marciano also began developing his ryhtim on the percussion, but for a samba group lead by his uncle. At 12, he was moving to samba’s most prestigious chord instrument, the 7 string-guitar. After that, for his teenager years he found his place at the electric blues guitar in a fusion band whose scope ranged from rock to dub, following along a funky groove. An ever-inquiring soul, his studies gradually brought him to electronic music, but it was during his 4 year-stay in Vienna (2002-2006) that it took over his musical interest. Fractal Mood’s first music together was composed for a videoart work by artist carlos dadoorian,(trilogia inconsciente) which was selected for the exhibition 26o Arte Pará (2007) and for the Sao Paulo Film Festival (2015). This debut set them on a path of constant interplay between music and visual arts, experimenting possibilities of crossovers as to reach museums and galleries, by then quite unfamiliar with electronic avant-guard music. This led to colaborations which the some Brazilians visual artists. In 2012, the Duo was invited to contribute with a Project (Edgar) developed by artist Julio de Paula and musicians Arrigo Barnabe, Aquiles and Lygina to perform live at Sao Paulo Art Bienal. From 2007 until 2011, another major project was unfolding at a new beach club at Ilhabela, scenic island located north of Sao Paulo state. DPNY was mirrored on European clubs that promote a lifestyle of well-being with fine music, fashion and design, a concept that has only started in Brazil. So Fractal Mood was called in to align the club’s music to the mood of the day: according to the sun, wind and the bustle, on a hifi soundsystem the DJs then put through downbeat and deep house sessions to the people chilling on the sand and enjoying the sea view. Adding to the legendary nightlife of Sao Paulo’s coast, they organized 6 annual summer parties. The beach club and hotel brand was further connected to music with the creation of a compilation Label, DPNY Records, edited by the duo and the German entrepeneur Wolfgang I. Napirei. Altogether, 4 double compilation discs were produced, selling 20.000 copies and thus contributing to enhance a broad public’s appreciation of electronica. Techno and house were gradually coming to the duo’s attention when an invitation to perform at the night club scene came up in 2011. Now they changed the island and the galleries for a residency for 4 years at the dark enigmactic box called D_EDGE. Holding boldly some 8-hour sets, Marciano and Guilherme were throwing in some tunes of their own making, as props for their set experience more than finished singles to present to the market. Nonetheless, with d_edge records that they were now running they kept their producing side fully devoted to support other producers and musicians that were turning the dark box into a community of their own folk. Tipically, one could find twice a month, Fractal Mood and their people on two of the weekly parties: mothership on Saturday[s night, and Sunday’s bravest and longest, Superafter. Invitations for gigs on other venues started to flow in: Brazilian cities such as Curitiba, Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Florianopolis, Cuiabá were taken over by special sets presentations....in places like Warung,Vibe, Terraza, Noon, Sounds in da City, 5quinto, Mamba Negra, Soulset, Pacha etc. In Europe Berlin, Amsterdan, Lisbon, Zurich, Geneve. In 2013 they stared to play at the Party Carlos Casplock, one of the most interesting and flourishing electronic music parties in Brazil. There they became also residents with party’s idealizer, Paulo Tessuto, and with producers L_cio and Pedro Zopelar. Since 2015 they are also partners at this Project, on charge of coordinating and producing of other 2 really cool parties in Sao Paulo: Mamba Negra and Soul.set Founded respectively by partner artists, Laura Diaz and Cashu / Thiago Guiseleni . In 2017 created along some friends a new collective party called Folklore, which take places once a mont in Sao Paulo. While keeping a keen eye for the formation of a highly knowledgeable and entertaining electronic music scene in Brazil, the duo decided to share with the general public and the broad community their musical approaches, putting forward their first creations: 2 singles (Dedge Records and Geth Physical), 2 remixes for Brazilians label cokpitch records and ganza records, debut EP at Kindish, Petit Terrible, 2016. At last a single at the Vynil Vibes, label from John Karsten (Köln, Germany).
