Eytan Tobin’s musical journey begins with the young student failing classical music theory in high school. Undeterred by his lack of musical theory and fuelled by his passion for electronic music, indie rock, and hip-hop, Eytan began flirting with all types of projects - ranging from drumming in a folk band, to writing and performing lead vocals for an electronic influenced post-punk trio, to producing instrumentals for a comedy rap group. Between 2012 and 2014, Eytan found his home as a keyboardist and live sample and loop arranger for the 6-piece progressive indie-rock band Mune before discovering his passion for Djing. Shifting his focus to electronic production, Eytan Tobin was signed by Toronto label Rare Beef Records with his 2014 EP, “For Everyone”. The record quickly received attention from local music journalists and international outlets like XLR8R and Thump which lead to Eytan’s invitation to the Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp 2015 in Montreal. It is during this time that he began writing his follow up EP, “1990”, a personal record mired by his anxieties and insecurities that were only heightened by the experience of being surrounded by established DJs and producers at the RBMA camp. “1990” fit perfectly with the melancholic, forward-thinking catalogue of Toronto internet label “Bedroomer”, which Eytan was not only signed to but was elevated to co-manager of the collective in 2016. The success of “1990” was followed by several releases on international labels including Never Slept (Australia), Tenth Degree (U.S), Ten Toes Turbo (Mexico), Deviant Audio, and remixes for acts like Most People and Pick A Piper. These releases culminated in a tour of Asia alongside frequent collaborator Internet Daughter. The tour included performances alongside DJ Fulltono in Osaka, Japan and with Teki Latex at Cakeshop in Seoul, South Korea. Following this tour and a downturn in his personal life, Eytan took a break from live performance - occasionally self-releasing experimental records and remix packs online. Eytan’s recent post-COVID-lockdown return to Djing has seen his experimental productions leaning further and further into club oriented arrangements - with heavy influence from Chicago Footwork, Jungle, and Baltimore / Jersey club. His recent edits have seen support from DJs like Meg10, Ana Luisa, Redliners, Nino Brown, Lilihell, Chippy Nonstop and Captivate. With his career spanning over a decade, Eytan has established himself as a veteran of the Toronto dance music scene - having Dj’d at dozens of raves, hosted several online radio shows, and booked the live debuts of some his biggest influences (Kush Jones, DJ Paypal, Champion, LSDXOXO, DJ Deeon, Ana Morgan, DJ Taye). Eytan is now focused on his club music bi-monthly, “Work-That”, which he runs with Exit Records’s signee Slater Groves and Toronto DJs Katarama And Vaughan.
