Ella Pavel's style developed over the years from long nights spent in the lighting booth at Ankali, hereandthere, Harmony, and most recently at Horst Festival, Waking Life, noclubs, and Spell. Operating lights requires deep listening and recognizing patterns in music, and it is quite fulfilling to connect the visual atmosphere to the story that the DJ is telling. After a few years, Ella was curious about what it would be like to be on the other side of the room, and since most of her friends were already DJs, they were really happy to teach her. In the past year she has been designing and operating lighting for festivals and parties outside of the Czech Republic, and this has provided infinite inspiration. She always leans towards halogen lighting, an analog approach that relies more on the warm feeling the light gives and its relationship with the space. The same could be said with her approach to music, which is constantly evolving. Right now she is interested in the clever arrangement of multiple genres, but in a subtle, almost unnoticeable way. It’s taking puzzle pieces and arranging them in a way that makes sense, and the puzzle pieces are just whatever she finds that makes her feel something. She prefers to discard genre words as a whole, instead finding more creative words to describe how tracks make us feel. At the moment she is interested in tracks that are chuggy, murky, marching, always with a good bassline. A witch’s cauldron that brews and bubbles on the dancefloor.
