A longtime member of the artist community in Montreal 🇨🇦, Brent McLennan has contributed to all manner of events and festivals since the 90s. Most often as a technical advisor, video technician and VJ, starting with a very prolific team up with local pioneer Russell Vaz (AKA VJ Hypnotica) where they appeared at raves such as Arrival, Cream and Celebration as well as holding residencies at after-hours clubs Aria, Stereo and Sona. In the early 00s he broke out on his own as vide0dr0id, providing a visual element for events such as Loose Joints, where psychedelic light shows were layered with video projections. The desire to elevate local artists and DJs, and electronic music as a whole, has always been there. In regards to producing and performing his own music, there were some early experiments with a basic home studio setup comprising a Roland TR-707, Ensoniq ESQ-1, Juno-106 with effects boxes that were found at used gear shops. Those early recordings were made on cassette tape and miniDisc, long before he had any access to a proper DAW. There were eventual collaborations with other artists and some of those projects led to live performances that definitely flew "under the radar", but were appreciated by the audiences. Those early shows happened at venues which are only talked about in the past tense now. Purple Haze and Le Lézard... amongst others. One particular live set in the late 90s with Richard Aube (of Noir Rituel) for the Techno Dimanches event at Foufounes Électriques stands out as a formative experience. From being a loyal fan, going to shows of influential groups and dancing all night to EBM and industrial music and years later ending up on stage, looking out at the crowd with your music booming out of the PA. Most recently under the alias dr0id_h4rmony, there have been live sets at events such as Zone Ambiente and the monthly open mic event Synthpocalypse organized by NDG Électronik. Always evolving and exploring different styles, his goal has been to connect with the audience and build a feedback loop that keeps the experience as incredible as the very first time beats and bleeps were committed to tape cassette all those years ago.
