Dj Phil Minnick
Biografía
Vinyl junkie turned beat selector, Phil Minnick started DJing in May 2010 after purchasing two Technics 1200’s to put his eclectic record collection to work. From funk and hip hop to deep house and techno, Phil’s extensive library of wax helped him secure multiple residencies during his time in Columbus, Ohio, including a weekly hip hop night at Callahan’s and a weekly Deep House residency at Bristol Bar bringing in guest DJs.
Phil moved to Miami, FL at the end of 2010 to attend University of Miami’s renowned music engineering program. He got involved with the award-winning radio station on campus, WVUM 90.5 FM. There, he refined his mixing skills as the host of the weekly show, “Deep House on Wax.” His radio show opened up gig opportunities at the hottest venues in Miami like Grand Central, Transit Lounge and Lush. A major highlight was his opening set for ANR, Afrobeta and Animal Tropical at the Borscht Movie Festival in Miami’s Historic Wynwood Design District.
After completing his graduate degree, Phil took a job opportunity with a major
audio company in Metro Detroit. It was an exciting move that grew his passion for techno. Since moving to Detroit 5 years ago, Phil’s style has been influenced by the dark nature of dance music. Present work includes co-managing a house label (Choose Better Friends Records) with fellow Detroit DJ's and throwing parties all around the Motor City. His sets were also a staple of Hot Haus Thursdays, a weekly residency at Cutter’s Bar & Grill in Eastern Market that led to opportunities to play private parties and corporate events.
As he continues to gain momentum and grow his record collection, Phil Minnick is making a name for himself in the Motor City one mix at a time.
