Dj Jon Barry
Biografía
After 15 years of spinning records in Ireland’s second city Cork, their are very few who would dispute that Jon Barry is one of the country’s finest.
He cut his teeth as a hip -hop DJ with residencies at the legendary Sir Henry’s, Lebowski’s and Hi-Fi, building a reputation as someone who could always be relied upon to rock, educate and surprise a crowd. Parallel to his DJ gigs, he spent two years presenting a show on the award winning pirate radio station, Radio Friendly.
Helped by his years working at Synthetic Records, Jon amassed a large, eclectic collection of vinyl. Over time his DJ style evolved from predominantly hip-hop to one with a greater emphasis on underground house and techno. His residencies at Innercity in 2006 and The Tikki Lounge in 2007 provided the catalyst for focusing primarily on these sounds.
He’s currently a resident with Click Cork, Roast & Red Social Club. He’s also had numerous guest slots at influential local nights Schmutzig, Electric Underground, Sunday Times, Submerge, Noize Kulture & Monotonik.
Outside of Cork Jon has played regularly in the Pygmalion and has been a guest at Dublin techno institution Electric City and Life Festival in 2011 and again this year. He’s supported acts such as Motor City Drum Ensemble, Prosumer, Conforce & Marc Houle to name a few.
Earlier this year Jon decided that after years of playing other peoples music it was time to make his own. He is currently in the studio for the first time working on his own material.
