DJ Evo

Biografía

Amongst countless spectrums of sound, DJ Evo is a scout – zeroing in on fine lines and intersections between worldly grooves, funk, soul, boogie, disco, hip hop and jazz (just to scratch the surface). With a laser focus on great energy and even better music, there’s no room for pretension in his record bag, nor in the rooms he plays - dimly lit cocktail bars like The Diamond, hot upscale brunch rotations at The Botanist, from packed dance floors at Fortune Nightclub back in the day and culturally significant spots from years gone by like Afro Funke in LA and Bembe in Brooklyn, and more recently playing multiple occasions at 915 Dupont in Toronto and Sans Soleil in Montreal. Currently holding down weekly residencies at Bagheera, June, Lala and Osteria Otto. Vancouver’s where Evo (a.k.a. Adam Petipas) plants his feet - his home court. But like any other good thing, where there’s demand, he can supply. Frequently jumping flights to LA, San Francisco, Toronto and NYC, as well as having played towns like Austin and Chicago, he could be found behind the turntables with the likes of Gilles Peterson, DJ Nu-Mark, Lefto and Jeremy Sole. Let his track record speak for itself: landing gigs at Squamish Valley Music Festival, and as runner-up at the 2012 Red Bull 3Style BC Finals Competition. He co-runs a label too, Adventures In Paradise – where he released his own mix on vinyl, the oft-requested “Mandingo Boogie” in 2018. Needless to say, Adam is a workhorse. He meets his ambitions due to his razor-sharp work ethic, shooting for the greatest in everything he does. He draws inspiration from jazz artists like Miles and Coltrane, from nuanced filmmakers like Denis Villeneuve, and from legendary NBA coach/literary icon Phil Jackson. No matter where the inspiration comes from, it’s channeled into his focus and attention to detail behind the turntables. Steel sharpens steel. DJ Evo connects the dots between artists and genres with a professional, yet laid-back approach. It could be the East coast hospitality ingrained in him back home, it could be his other gig as a sought-after barber. Whatever the case may be, the goal is always the same: bring positive energy, foster good vibes, and give people an even better reason to love the space they’re in.
