"It's RARE to find a DJ that plays dope-ass tracks and gets just as pumped as the crowd does when he plays them. That's what makes a Dig-Doug performance special... The pure exuberance with which he approaches his art!" DJ Dig-Doug got his start in 1984 making hip-hop and electro mix tapes for his break-dancing crew in Detroit ("The 313 Circuit Breakers"). In the late 80’s he cut his teeth in the Detroit Techno scene spinning at after hours clubs and house parties until he moved to Florida in 1992. He honed his chops in the Florida funky breaks scene of the 90’s spinning old-school breaks and eventually Drum-N-Bass. He also made a name and reputation as a promoter and producer for several weeklies and one-off events around Orlando. No matter his role (DJ, Producer or Promoter), when he wasn't working you could find Doug on the dance floor with the fans. He has always preferred the company of the people who really love the music, rather than those who just want to be seen. One of the hardest working DJ's in the underground scene, he could always be found at the center of ANY party, if there were tables, he was spinning. Chill-out rooms, After Hours, House Parties, or Open Tables, he never passed on an opportunity to get on the decks and pump a party. Eventually he earned some regular gigs through his persistence in dropping mixtapes in the hands of every DJ and promoter he came across. In 1997 he opened up for the Chemical Brothers along with DJ Icey on the Florida leg of their "Dig Your Own Hole" North American Tour. While on tour, Ed Simons of the Chemical Brothers turned him on to Drum-N-Bass. As soon as he got back to Orlando, a chance meeting and discussion with AK1200 at a gig they were both playing inspired Doug to abandon the Funky Breaks scene exclusively for Jungle/Drum-N-Bass. At the Winter Music Conference 1998, DJ Dig-Doug released his seminal "American" Drum-N-Bass track "Fusion Reactor," which climbed the "Hot Lists" and DJ Charts around the World. DJ Dig-Doug moved to Boston in 2000 and retreated into his home studio to perfect his unique brand of mixing and made the occasional foray into production. In 2005 he "officially" hung-up his headphones to focus on becoming a firefighter/paramedic, husband and father. In 2012 he re-emerged as one of the most versatile and creative DJ’s around. After experimenting and making a few "mixtapes" in other genres of EDM (Prog/Electro House, and Dubstep most notably) Dig-Doug has gone back to his roots sticking with the Dark and Dirty Drum-n-Bass and funky Breaks he is known for. Though he is a prolific mixtape producer, the essence of a DJ Dig-Doug performance is his showmanship. In order to truly appreciate what he does, you simply have to see him perform live!
