Dhol Academy
Biografía
Recognising the lack of musical outlets for the South Asian community in East London, Pritam Singh Bamrah set on a mission to establish an open, safe and friendly environment for emerging musical talent. The club became an integral part of the community, and thus Dhol Academy emerged – officially naming itself ‘Dhol Academy’ in 1994.
Their main emphasis now focuses on training students in understanding classical Indian music and the art forms of Folk & Sufi rhythmic Dhol patterns. Taking over from Pritam, Dhol Academy is now in the innovative and established hands of Jasdeep Singh – with over 25 years of experience learning & teaching Dhol, Jasdeep has developed his own unique sound, combining the complex classical & Sufi percussive patterns with the flow & vibe of Folk Dhol drumming.
Then add to these sounds a backdrop of dance music and what you get is pure musical bliss.
Dhol Academy have collaborated with artists such as Panjabi MC, Raf Saperra, Skrillex and performed at events & festivals including Dialled In: The Park, Glastonbury, Jawani4eva, The London Mela
