As co-founder of Berliner record label MM Discos, and one half of its eponymous DJ duo, Moon&Mann, Da Silva spent over a decade on the Berlin club circuit, all while personally overseeing a treasure trove of releases from the likes of Franz Scala, Marcello Giordani, Mogwaa and Mori Ra under the MM Discos imprint. Da Silva is also responsible for Geradehaus, a Berlin party known for inviting selectors like Tornado Wallace, Lena Willikens and Palms Trax to its stage before they hit the global club circuits. In 2020, following a move to Barcelona, Da Silva set out on a new project: Balearic Ensemble is a vinyl-focused label that follows the thread of the balearic sound, from fuzzy, life-affirming dance tracks to ambient, downtempo and sunset jams. His idea was to bring together a network of artists, writers and photographers for a series of 12” and digital releases that add their own flavor to the worldwide balearic scene. Subsequent releases from Max Essa, Das Komplex and Residentes Balearicos have made Balearic Ensemble a well-known name on the balearic scene. August 22 saw Da Silva playing records in Ibiza under his Balearic Ensemble pseudonym, stopping at the legendary Pikes Hotel and other spots around the island. Behind the booth, he’s revered for energetic, hi-tempo, eclectic sets that span the gamut from 90s Spanish house to starry-eyed disco rollers. In 2021, he formed the Balearic Ensemble Soundsystem Organization (B.E.S.S.O.) for a series of parties at institutions across Madrid and Barcelona, such as Macera, Sala Siroco and Razzmatazz. With both MM Discos and Balearic Ensemble showing no signs of stopping, 2023 looks set to be another promising year, with more gigs and releases penned as Da Silva brings his rolling balearic sound across clubs in Europe.
