Laurie Piña (aka Crushed Peanut) is a DJ and record collector who predominantly spins all vinyl. Her record collection is versatile, but she specializes in styles from the 90s and early 2000s including trip hop, chillout, big beat, breakbeat pop, lounge pop, IDM, clubpop, and Happy Charm Fool Dance Music/Shibuya-kei. Additionally, she enjoys playing Japanese and French synth pop. Over the years, she cut her teeth as a selector at several community events including in-store record shop gigs, pop-ups, and local DIY art shows, which has allowed her to bring her eclectic collection and sensibility to events like the grand reopening reception of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla and the In Sheep’s Clothing x Folk Arts Rare Records x Japonesia Spring ‘23 Market at Quartyard in Downtown San Diego. She hosts Rare Charm, a monthly radio show on Particle FM, a San Diego-based DIY internet radio station dedicated to uplifting marginalized and underrepresented artists in and outside of San Diego. Each episode explores a wide range of music and other sonic sources based on a unique narrative, concept, or mood. Since 2021, she's been co-hosting a curated lounge and dance party at Whistle Stop with her partner. Together, they survey global electronica, bridging turn-of-the-millennium styles with present-day electronic artists influenced by those sounds. She often plays at the high fidelity listening bar Part Time Lover.
