Niels Tanghe, also known as COARSAL is a 22 year old Belgian producer & Dj based in Brussels. Known for his raw, textural and atmospheric approach to sound design, he tries to merge multiple aspects of electronic music into a breath of fresh air and connect his dub techno, breakbeat & drum & bass influences to trance inducing pads & melodies, giving space for abstract reflection bathed in Techno and Breakbeat. This gets translated as well during live performances where the Coarsal sound is made of gritty high energy, trance inducing and textural techno mixed with moving breakbeats all while letting through emotions and let the audience dream away. - BACKSTORY Having a bachelor degree in Business Management - Marketing & Multimedia Niels chose to focus (on the side) on sound-design & production while finetuning his mixing skills in private during his educational years. Starting out as a beatmaker under the name Notafrenchman in 2019, he launched his platform Manyac Records and released 120 beats in the period between 2019 - 2021. After realizing wanting to pursue a personal musical journey Notafrenchman released 3 experimental EP’s. The first one ‘19’ released in march of 2021 and was an instrumental piece within the context of hip hop. The second one was a Drum & Bass EP called ‘A Tale Of Twisted Memories’ and released on 29th of July 2022 accumulating over 25 000 streams across streaming platforms. His final release under Notafrenchman was a preview of the new artistic direction with the ‘Prophecy’ EP consisting of his first work within techno music. This gained him a placement of the single ‘Transcendence’ in the Belgian VRT & Netflix show “Knokke OFF”. Under the new alias, COARSAL released his first EP entitled: ‘Break The Blur’ on the 11th of August 2023 giving reference to his breakbeat influences and his breakthrough in knowing what musical direction he wants to go forward in, thus literally breaking the blurred and experimental vision he once had to make room for a more focused and thoughtful approach. The EP will form the basis from which all future projects will depart. Apart from music, Niels is co-founder of the DISTRICT collective based in Brussels organizing events starting September 2023 and running the District Imprint subsidiary on which he will also be releasing music.
