Growing up in Austin, Texas saw a young Christine Renée immersed in the mid-90s Emo, post-punk, and “art-punk” scenes centered on locals like the Butthole Surfers, Explosions in the Sky, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of The Dead. Child of a record collecting, audiophile, guitar player and groomed in a town that needs no musical introduction, her teachers were at home, on the radio, at local venues, and in the city’s many record stores. Her work as a teen music journalist led to the honor of hosting a panel as the youngest speaker at the SXSW Festival called “Why the Music Industry Sucks”(1994). She documented the scene on celluloid and participated in shows as a performance and installation artist. She were also active in the film community, most notably appearing in the cult classic, Dazed and Confused. After earning an American Studies degree, she immigrated to and thrived in a post 9-11 New York art scene finding their footing as a punk, new wave DJ and then transitioned with the scene to a disco-influenced sound, captured best by The Rapture's "House of Jealous Lovers" (DFA Records 2002). During a NY era that will always be remembered as enchanting and vibrant, CR worked at a record store on 7th st between 1st and Ave A in the LES. This small block was a downtown epicenter of artists. Finally, she produced the film Stamina, a 36-hour dance party with artists Agathe Snow and (now her husband) Alex Czetwertynski* leaving NY soon after. Encouraged by their mentor Dj Harvey, CR went west to LA in 2006. They played at Harvey’s 39 Hotel space in Hawaii a few times. There CR threw underground raves in Venice and frequently played the Bears in Space party at Akbar in Hollywood. She also began to study healing with sound under composer John Beaulieu. In 2012 CR visited NY to assist sound designer Jim Toth on Kraftwerk’s week-long performance at the MOMA and she decided to move back to the city. Since the move, she's created 250 (and counting) hours of “televised” live mixes via The Lot Radio. CR's shows are known for their theme investigations such as, “Chuck Berry, Why?” “Malcolm Mclaren, A@%hole or God?” and “Infinite Mirrors”. Continuing her study of sound, CR created a performance series called Tuning incorporating live performances with human tuning forks, sound installations, live synth performances, video, dance, and group meditation.** In 2019 they turned her focus to curation and kicked off the music program at Brooklyn hi-fi club Public Records as Head Curator.
