Chizu Anucha (aka chizu nnamdi) is an audiovisual artist based in Glasgow, using sound and its relationship to the moving image to experiment at the intersection of music, video and site-responsive performance. He’s interested in the romanticism of spiritual and ritualistic practices, and in mundanity, as navigated by Black folk who are inclined toward otherworldly phenomena. His performances pull influence from West African afrobeat, mùsica popular brasileira and British indie-experimental sensibilities, while he tip-toes in an interplay between the melodies and rhythms of highlife with deeply modulated electric guitar tones born of New Age and shoegaze. Tender and raw ambiences swell and tracks are assembled live in real time, making light of the contradictions of the human condition, honing nostalgia, and cyclical natures of being.
