Chainsmoker
Biografía
Coming from the gang-infested streets of Inglewood, California, PJ relocated to the Midwest in the early 1990's to attend school and pursue aspirations of enlisting into the Marine Corps;soon finding that his plans for a military career would be derailed by the power of music.
Chainsmoker first became interested in the electronic music scene in 1993, when a love interest took him to his first rave and underground dance party and unbeknownst to him, he was seeing his future in the making. Up to this point, he had always been involved in some sort of music creation, mostly by which he divided his time between Hardcore Punk(as a bass player for a budding Straight Edge band) and Hip Hop(as an MC for a prominent local Rap group). But in late 1994, Chainsmoker decided to try his hand in the underground dance arts; trading his bass guitar for a Roland R-70 drum machine and later, scoring a set of Techniques 1200 turntables. In a year's time, he had already started to establish himself as reputable House and techno DJ and producer, producing and DJing for and in various clubs, parties and events all over the Midwest. But after years of stagnation in the scene, real life started to supersede all aspirations of his musical pursuit...
Years later and now residing in New York City, back on the move and now focusing more on Techno than in his earlier years, Chainsmoker has decidedly started to shape the exact sound he had been working to craft for well over 20 years. Taking in deep influence from legendary imprints like Relief, Djax/Upbeats, Tresor, Missile and Force Inc., Chainsmoker makes no excuses for his take-no-prisoners rhythms and unrestricted cadence. As he has been known to do; he will unabashedly tell you himself, "I do what I want," which resonates clearly in his sound.
After decades of preparation, Chainsmoker launches his own imprint Drone Groove Records, where his first internet release, 'Overdriver' was released in the summer of 2015. He has since landed releases under Techno powerhouses like UKR, Chicago Jaxxx, Backspin, Anode and the like, with many more under way. Suffice it to say, the Techno landscape should be expecting big things from Chainsmoker for years to come.
