One head, multiple cities, many collaborators. In his 3 albums, 8 EPs, and over 90 published songs, Cero39 may well have invented tropical futurism (Remezcla, 2016): his rhythms are heavy, hard, and progressive, finely tuned for the dance floor. Elegant and heavy on the bass, yet still Caribbean, Latin, with hidden references to dembow and cumbia. The tropical is more of a feeling or mood. The bass is effective. His universe features genetically modified macaws that shoot laser beams from their eyes and bionic capybaras, all-terrain and jet-propelled. It's a completely new world. Perhaps this parallel dimension constitutes the "hot lands" referred to in one of his EPs. This is the essence of Cero39: a matrix of bright and colorful sounds derived from acoustic instruments, plus a hard, even crystalline, production, and the cleanest and most synthetic rhythms available, all constantly rolling over a dark and viscous sea of bass. It's coolly futuristic while still feeling deeply rooted in Afro-Caribbean culture. Cero39 has performed at more than 50 festivals around the world, with a notable presence in Europe, China, and Latin America, including Glastonbury, Barbican, Cappadocia Music Fest, Fusion Festival, Bahidorá, Festival de Musicas do Mundo de Sines, Chunyu Music Fest, to name a few memorable ones for various reasons.
