After moving to Europe in the early 90’s as a child, Calvache’s attention was soon grabbed by hip hop and electronic music in general. Early encounters with Rotterdam’s Gabba sound, Detroit techno and Chicago house music kick started an ongoing obsession and inspired him to carve out his own personal taste, ranging from contemporary Brazilian Jazz to rare disco and Eddy Wally. Since 2011, Calvache’s infectious selections and mixing skills allowed him to take many dancefloors on a trip to the deeper side with his rhythmic percussive style. In his own words: “If it has a rhythm, I respect it’.” With his name, also his network grew and it wasn’t long before he became part of Antwerp’s Sunday Matinee crew, which eventually also led to a residency in Antwerp’s newest underground venue: Ampere.
