Raised worlds apart, both artists have one thing in common, their passion and dedication to electronic music. It is said that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, so it’s not surprising that their musical influence roots from their families. Karina is the daughter of classical violinists curated by the Russian master David Oistrakh. She spent her early years in Egypt, where her father Igor was the concertmaster of Cairo Symphony Orchestra and her mother worked as a professor at the Music Academy. In her teens Karina rebelled against her classical roots and went to sing in a blues band, always fiddling with the piano in any case. Attending festivals like Roskilde and Quart, in 1998, she saw Kraftwerk and Portishead. Stumbling upon a tent with hypnotic techno with Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier and Richie Hawtin playing inside was definitely a start of a never ending fascination for electronic music. The following year, while dancing to Frankie Knuckles on Ibiza she promised herself to buy a pair of Technics and started collecting vinyl records. Connie’s father, who was an opera singer in Beijing, sparked her interest in music by playing classical records on the family owned belt-drive turntable Like many Asian households, she was faced with the choice of piano or violin at a young age. She too rebelled and chose to listen to punk and new wave instead of classical, spending many evenings in her bedroom closet with music secretly playing on her radio, as it was frowned upon in the Yin family home. Years later, her love for music led her to learn to play the drums and the bass guitar. Since then, she has performed in NYC’s most prestigious venues like Bowery Ballroom, Irving Plaza, Niagara, and BB Kings, sharing the stage with Debbie Harry, Victor deLorenzo (Violent Femmes) and Twisted Sister with numerous past bands. Connie, currently, is still working on a few band projects, including Jilted Lover and Bricklip. Connie and Karina’s experience and reputation to rock dance floors established their names in the global dance music community. Connie is a respected figure in the New York City techno scene and the original resident of notorious underground party, ReSolute. Karina, a vinyl-only DJ, was living the life of a nomad, digging for gold in record stores and touring the world with her black UDG bag. After living a decade on Ibiza and holding a residency at the legendary open air - The Zoo Project, she settled for a few years in Berlin, where she awkwardly became a seldom guest at parties, contemplating the cave of a studio in Kreuzberg. It was a matter of time before she found her way to New York and the two artists met again and were reacquainted. Connie and Karina come together as connoisseurs bound to bring a breath of fresh air to the underground electronic music scene. Their diverse selection consists of everything from psychedelic rock to acid house killers, to Detroit techno, to Romanian dub and minimal favorites, as curiosity, extensive collecting instinct and appetite shine through in their lives. Shelves, boxes, suitcases, hard drives, storage spaces, friends lending a hand, packages, shipments, lost files, hidden compartments with Ortofon needles.. Does it ever stop? When it comes to music they both shake their heads and laugh. “It is never enough!”. Call it an organized chaos or not, confident in their choices, C&K blend a variety of sounds, experimenting with 4/4 beats and unquantified live minimal arrangements.
