Buen Viaje
Biografía
"We had been roommates for 5 years before starting Buen Viaje, and over the last two years realized our taste in electronic music was so similar that we started mixing together. We created a monthly live stream in our living room during quarantine which then grew into our good friend Boaz Walker’s photo/video studio. Those streams really set the foundation for Buen Viaje today, and helped us evolve our sound."
It's no surprise the duo's (Dain and Andrés) B2B style of mixing feels like the mind of one DJ when you look at their history as roommates and close friends coming up in the Chicago house scene. However, the history doesn't stop there. Dain had been mixing for years prior to forming Buen Viaje, and Andrés had been performing in bands and producing for years prior.
"We feel lucky to be a part of the Chicago scene. It is easy to look elsewhere for inspiration like the UK, Detroit, and France... but when you have massive history and house pedigree right in your backyard, it shifts your perspective and makes you double down on embedding yourself in the Chicago scene."
The pair always had a drive to grow Buen Viaje, and coming from DIY living room live stream roots to their residency at The Whistler in Chicago is evidence of that. "Chicago feels like an intimate & friendly scene inside a massive city. Getting out and making connections with other DJs and producers is essential everywhere, but feels like it really gets you somewhere in Chicago."
Of course connections haven't been the only thing helping them out, as their music speaks for itself. "We are very inspired by classic house artists like Kerri Chandler, Ron Trent, and Larry Heard. We like to pay tribute to house titans by blending a classic melodic sound with driving, shuffle based rhythms that create a pulse. We dig for 90s era techno and house like Pure Science and Wamdue Project, and combine that vibe with more modern productions to create a familiar, but very unique sound. Our goal is to make people gravitate to the dance floor, and hopefully experience something they haven’t heard or felt before."
So what is next for the duo? "We are really focusing on vinyl a lot, and putting a lot of effort into production. We really want to cement ourselves in Chicago and beyond"
