Classically trained from a young age, he has the ability to pull audiences into his world, whether through the evocative strains of a piano or the intricate layers of his string orchestrations. Over the past three years, boyd has been crafting his album Rite of Passage, an 8-part body of work that blends traditional chamber strings with deep electronic sound. This album, set to release on September 27, 2024, narrates his personal journey from the challenges of losing his father at a young age to the transformative process of finding his voice through sound. The album was recorded live with a string quintet, masterfully captured by Brad Hasiuk at Sydney's renowned Studio 301. In late 2023, boyd captivated audiences at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Ensemble Hall with a concert where he performed his original works on piano with live electronics while accompanying string quintet. His innovative use of the 'Osmose' synth from Expressive E acted as a transformative bridge, blending traditional and modern sounds. This performance marked the beginning of an exciting artist partnership with Expressive E, who not only expressed great interest in boyd's work but also was the main sponsor the event. Building on this success, boyd will hold his concert Resonance in November 2024 at Australian Chamber Orchestra’s, The Neilson Pier 2/3. This event will explore the concept of resonance through original compositions, highlighting the acoustic frequencies of chamber strings and the dynamic electronic tones of Expressive E's Osmose. Resonance is a collaboration with lighting artist Andre Vanderwert, offering an immersive audio-visual experience that captures the essence of both traditional and contemporary worlds. Since 2020, boyd has been successfully placing his music in various TV shows and films, including UNICEF's first feature film, Haraka. His experience in this field has sharpened his ability to create versatile, emotionally resonant compositions that enhance visual storytelling. In 2022, he scored the successful short film The Little Things, which was recently featured on SBS's On Demand platform. His work on Hayden Niessen's King Tide, a story about the unique relationship between fathers and sons, was nationally recognised through touring Onsite screenings. Boyd's passion for film scoring led to his commission for Ellesandra Hills' 2024 film Under the Trees. This evocative short, set along the Colo River in New South Wales, tells the inspiring story of two teenage siblings escaping an abusive household and is set for release in late 2024. Boyd is also currently scoring his first feature film, Pater Noster, an action-thriller set to release in early 2025.
