Bony Fly is a DJ and producer hailing from Geneva, Switzerland. His career as a producer started in 2011, when he set up his own studio to record bands, musicians and vocalists for his own projects. His earlier productions are the result of an original mixture of influences that are mainly digital reggae from the 80’s, dancehall from the 90’, dub, and latin music. In 2015, Bony Fly launched his own imprint Sparring Partners. This independent record label based on soundsystem culture releases limited editions of vinyl records. In addition, he has released tracks on labels such as Cubiculo Records (Portugal), Pure Niceness (France), Chinese Man Records (France), Warrior Dread (Japan) and Cultural Warriors (Switzerland). Furthermore, he is a member of the GWO Sound collective, a team of five Geneva-based DJ’s and selectors that host a monthly radioshow broadcasted on LYL Radio. In 2016, Bony Fly started curating his own events under the name of Dancehall Fusion. These parties aim to introduce dancehall in a more alternative way by blending it with other urban music genres based on soundsystem culture. Influences come from bass music, bashment, dub, hip hop, reggaetón and reggae, to name a few. These monthly events take place in one of Geneva’s leading clubs, La Gravière, where the night makes a name for itself on the local scene. Quickly, Dancehall Fusion started to gain recognition in the international circuit, by featuring international acts such as Dre Skull, Swing Ting, Jubilee, Equiknoxx, Poirier, Tash LC, Felix Hall and Tako amongst others. While Bony Fly’s has been exposed to latin urban music from an early age due to his partly Guatemalan heritage, it wasn’t until a 6 week tour of North America with Paris based Taiwan MC, that he decided to explore the genre in his productions. Following several more trips to New York and Colombia to collaborate with local artists, Bony Fly’s journey into reggaetón resulted in his remix of the 2018 Colombian anthem Catalina (Taiwan MC, Paloma Pradal). While the heavily bass-infused release was his first contribution to the genre, it received high praise due to Bony Fly’s signature production style, blending new digital production techniques with the classic style analog mixing dub mixing. This breakthrough lead him to coproduce his first full-EP with Evidence Music. Due to be released on October 27th, 2019, this dancehall-oriented project blends afrobeats and reggaetón. The already-released two singles include a heavy hitting 2000’s dancehall-inspired track alongside dancehall veteran Capleton. The second single is an international summer hit featuring one of the hottest Jamaican artists Busy Signal; as well as one of the most talented European artists Million Stylez and the promising Guinean Safa Diallo. Both have received critical acclaim, with the latter reaching over 200k views on YouTube after one month. Besides proving himself in the studio, Bony Fly is recognized as an eclectic DJ. He quickly established himself as one of the most exciting acts on the Geneva scene, while gaining international acclaim. He has been invited to perform in Colombia, the USA, Mexico, Guatemala, Canada, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Switzerland. More recently, Bony Fly started hosting his own radioshow on the Amsterdam-based Red Light Radio, as well having been invited as a guest DJ at Dekmantel Radio and France-based Rinse FR. In 2019, Bony Fly decided to launch his second imprint called Dimelow. The record label reflects the producer’s vision of contemporary street music and leverages the same inclusive philosophy which has propelled his Dancehall Fusion events to a Geneva mainstay. By curating his events that aim to introduce dancehall in an inclusive way by blending it with other street and soundsystem-oriented sounds, the resident quickly realizes the potential of a global underground club scene. Dimelow is a record label shaped by the producer’s vision of contemporary urban music. Its inception aims to provide an independent platform that enables friends and family from around the globe to express their vision of music, giving the releases relevance on the global underground scene. Future collaborations include Chi Ching Ching, Agent Sasco, Landa Freak, Vershon, QQ and a Nino Augustine EP is due to be released in December 2019.
