Billy Morris first started DJ'ing while at school and began to organise small local parties for friends in Dundee. He continued up until 1996 when he was spotted by the promoters of Glam and quickly became one of their residents. From here he proceeded to make a name for himself as a crowd pleaser, initially playing uplifting, euphoric and pumping trance. As a resident he helped shape the sounds with which Glam became synonymous. He became known for his ability to read the crowd, rather than turning up with a pre-defined set, something which he continues to this day. He started to learn his trade properly while a resident in the famous Purple Rooms, warming up for such names as Judge Jules, K-Klass, Graeme Park, Micheal Kilkie, Tony de Vit and Darren Stokes. He picked up the name ‘billypleased’ by accident after a gig with Jon Pleased Wimmin. As he took to the decks, someone shouted "We want Jon Pleased Wimmin", to which he replied on the mic tongue in cheek "F**k Jon Pleased Wimmin, I'm Billy pleased himself", and the name stuck. "At first it was a laugh but eventually the promoters knew I hated it and put it on the posters deliberately to wind me up." (Thanks Shy) This nickname name followed him to several residencies across Scotland including Universe in Coatbridge, Waterfront in Arbroath and Fat Sams, Purple Rooms, Hubara and Circus in Dundee, as well as playing at Glam events through-out Scotland, including some memorable nights at the Tunnel in Glasgow. His favourite nights however, were always with his own crowd, at the Waterfront in Arbroath, where he appeared alongside DJ's such as Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules, Seb Fontaine, Ferry Corsten, Scott Bond, John 00 Fleming, Guy Ornadel, Dave Pearce, John Kelly, Jon Pleased Wimmin, Tall Paul, K-Klass, Jeremy Healy, Steve Lawler, Graeme Park, Tony de Vit, Alister Whitehead, Chad Jackson, Parks & Wilson, Darren Stokes, Micheal Kilkie, Nigel Dawson, Don Diablo, Huggy Burger Queen, DJ Heaven, Brandon Block & Alex P. "The crowd at Glam were always up-for-it and gave me some of the best nights ever." After leaving Glam, Billy moved on to an old skool night named ‘Era’ which ran successfully for several years with sell out events. It was around this time he started ‘Electrode’. From humble beginnings in Club Mondo with guest DJs including Jeremy Healy, JPW, Tall Paul and Fergie, they moved to the Reading Rooms where Electrode evolved with a more underground sound booking niche DJs such as Pig & Dan, Pryda’s Jeremy Olander and Stefano Noferini. They have also put on some major events at Fat Sams too with the likes of Rhumba favourite Mauro Picotto and Marco V playing to larger crowds. Billy also stepped in to the empty DJ booth when Eddie Halliwell failed to appear last year. Colours were the next to come calling and Billy has performed at most of their major events throughout Scotland including Coloursfest, Steve Angello’s Size tour at Ingliston, Axwell and friends at the O2 Academy in Glasgow and numerous nights in the Arches, the highlight being a peak time slot on the 2ManyDjs’ tour there. He has also played at their StreetRave events. Billy’s latest venture has been ‘Dare!’ with DJ Jon Pleased Wimmin bringing his eclectic electronic and disco-tinged delights to sell out nights in The Reading Rooms. “Playing back to back with a DJ who I used to follow (most notably at the Rhumba) is a great privilege and the vibe at Dare means we can, and do, play just about anything, it’s just about fun”. Recently, Billy has been playing for the legendary Rhumba club at their massive Festival of House with a huge line up and also their first event of 2014 with the man like Sasha and Slam. He continues to work with them on nights throughout Scotland and also appears at Festivals such as Carnival 56 and Groove Cairngorm as well as a slot on the Cream Tour. Billy is now a member of the Get Booked Academy run by Danny Savage where he is mentored by such DJ heavyweights as Roger Sanchez, Doorly and Brandon Block.
