Zuzana Balazova (Aka Biji) is a Slovakian electronic music producer and DJ. Before recently branching out into building her own instruments, Zuzana spent 15 years honing her skills in venues across central europe, along with running club Spojka in central Bratislava and hosting 3 stages at her native electronic music festival Pohoda which attracted the likes of: Carl Craig, Steve Bug, Luke Slater(L.B.Dub Corp, PLanetary Assault Systems) Roman Flugel (Alter Ego), Swayzak, Slam, Jazzanova, Layo & Bushwacka, Luke Solomon (Freaks), Heiko M/S/O (Playhouse),… Playing alongside some of these legendary names, along with witnessing their skill from both sides of the turntables, has continued to drive Zuzana to explore new territory with her own mixing, whilst remaining true to the ethos she developed in her early career. In the void that was created by the fall of communism in Slovakia (in which the import of new music was not yet centralised ) the countries slow integration into Europe forced Zuzana to go further afield, often buying records at clandestine meetings in shady garages and basements on the countries borders, before moving to Berlin, Prague and finally London in pursuit of her goal. Out of this was born a passion for not only the music, but the story behind it; the artist, the label, and the influences and interactions which created it. It is this story, along with her own, which Zuzana portrays in her sets; weaving together multiple genres into a tapestry which is both informative and evocative, whilst creating something which is undoubtably unique.
