BigRedMachine once toured the US as a professional dancer, performing at competitions and on stages of festivals organized by Insomniac. He’s spending his second chapter proving that this period wasn’t his peak. Not only did he help found the world’s largest blockchain conference, ETHDenver, in the years since, but he’s played records at leading web3 events such as NFT.NYC, Art Basel and Consensus. It was the year 2000 when a teenage Dustin discovered raves. He fell in love with the scene’s emphasis on community and creativity, and he never once looked back. Dustin took up street dancing under the stage name Red, and before long, he found himself rubbing shoulders with the likes of Popin Pete, Skeeter Rabbit, and the late Don “Campbellock” Campbell. At an Orlando competition, it was the latter dance legend who told him, “You’re more than just Red. You should go by BigRedMachine.” BigRedMachine cliqued up with Denver dancer Average Nate, who landed him a spot on the local Team EZ Crew. This, in turn, gave him an audience at some of the biggest dance music gatherings in the US. Among them were Insomniac massives like Nocturnal Wonderland, Beyond Wonderland, and even the main stage of Electric Daisy Carnival. As he was seemingly on top of the world, BigRedMachine felt the call to branch out into a separate medium. He enrolled in courses on DJing and music production at Dubspot in NYC in 2010. Armed with a newfound wealth of knowledge, he set out to attack the dancefloor from different angles. Life had other plans. BigRedMachine fell on hard times financially, to the point that he even had to sleep on the subway for a few nights. This reality check led him to seek financial freedom as a successful entrepreneur. By 2017, he had arrived. As a talent leader for top projects like NEAR and Chainlink Labs as well as a co-founder of Opolis and ETHDenver, he carved out an indelible lane himself in the emerging blockchain industry. Being the future-forward space that it is, web3 has allowed BigRedMachine to pursue electronic music once again. He can be found playing records at rooftop parties across the Big Apple and events as big as NFT.NYC, Art Basel, and Consensus. BigRedMachine also regularly performs at the annual arts gathering Burning Man, where he runs a sound camp called Swig-N-Swing. If it wasn’t for dance music and the connections it’s brought him, BigRedMachine wouldn’t likely enjoy as many opportunities in the crypto space. In this way, life has brought him full circle, allowing him to channel the joy and abundance he’s achieved through his selections. BigRedMachine’s heart beats to these rhythms — the same as each dancer on the opposite side of the decks. Needless to say, he’s been in their shoes. BigRedMachine’s newfound fan base can look forward to original music releases that capture a cross-section of the house and techno spectrum.
