BERGA

BERGA is a Brazilian-born DJ and producer based in Naarm/Melbourne. Rhythm sits at the centre of his work, sometimes direct and driving, sometimes broken, loose and harder to place. His approach moves freely through hypnotic techno and more experimental forms of club music without settling into a fixed formula. His relationship with music began more than two decades ago as a self-taught drummer, later expanding into bass, electric and acoustic guitar, piano and violin. That background remains present in the way he builds music: through movement, tension, texture and the interaction between different rhythmic layers. Growing up in Brazil exposed him to a wide musical language, from samba and bossa nova to jazz, gospel and alternative rock. These influences rarely appear literally in his productions, but continue to inform his sense of groove, dynamics and arrangement. BERGA’s productions have found support from JakoJako, Mama Snake, MARRØN, Woody92, Marcal and Polygonia, with music released through Diffuse Reality, Duplicity, PRTWX, Circuit Breaker, UNDERRADAR and others. Behind the decks, his sets tend to unfold gradually rather than follow a single tempo or genre, moving between deep, hypnotic, fast and broken territory while maintaining a continuous sense of tension. He has shared lineups with artists including Marcal, Decoder, Hasvat Informant, Connor Wall and Sybil, while becoming a familiar presence within Naarm’s underground electronic music scene. Alongside his solo work, BERGA is a co-founder of Opportunity, a Naarm-based art collective built around emerging artists and the meeting point between music, visual art and culture.
