As one half of trailblazing duo Adana Twins, Ben has already clocked up an impressive list of accomplishments. Global tours, highly-acclaimed releases and an influential record label are all part of the “Planet TAU” empire he runs with cohort Jan Friso. Now, though, he is exploring this solo project, parallel to his adventures with Adana Twins. Through his endeavours in the studio, Ben found that some of the music he was producing wasn’t quite aligned with the Adana Twins sound. However, rather than sideline his efforts, he decided to keep them and send them out. The first batch were snapped up by Permanent Vacation and so began the path to his new project. Since then, his sonic identity has continued to sharpen, attracting an impressive roster of remixers including Massimiliano Pagliara, Man Power, Jex Opolis, Maruwa and Schiela — each of whom has reimagined his music through their own distinctive lens. Ben’s heartbeat pumps to the rhythm of nineties hip hop and RnB, it’s food for his soul and provides the inspiration to much of the music he produces. It was a golden era, pre-internet, yet still so immersed in technology. The roots of his sound are embedded in that special time and the energy of the nineties reverberates through his compositions. He describes it as a fire that burns inside him, the need to channel the vibrations of that era. As Ben Evers he is free to dive into the deep well of inspiration from his key influences and express it in his own unique way. Besides his own material, Ben’s vision includes producing for other artists — vocalists who he can bring into his studio and collaborate with. His background in beatmaking, combined with his deep appreciation of beat-driven genres like house, hip hop and RnB means he is perfectly placed to make his vision a reality. This liberation has triggered a burst of creative energy in Ben, and he has been busy in the studio creating loops, sketches and finished tracks. From the vintage sounds on the title track to the oh-so-familiar sample on ‘Vamporizer’ and the vocal clip on ‘The Journey’, the Ben Evers sonic imprint is clear to hear — a signature he now continues to develop across releases on Live At Robert Johnson, Correspondant and Eternal Sunshine. The artist name is a homage to his family, taking the last name of his partner Maya Evers, who is also an artist. Demonstrating his heartfelt love for his partner and their children, he took the name with the intention of playing future back-to-back shows with her. This is Ben Evers all round, committed to his family, and maintaining an ethos rooted in love and positivity. His music, his outlook and his life are all inspired by those keywords.
