Sebastián Alarcón, also known as Balam, is a versatile DJ and music producer hailing from Mexico City. His journey into electronic music began at a young age, experimenting with his grandparents' vinyl records. He was captivated by electronic music after attending his first underground rave behind a car repair shop, drawn by its ability to authentically express human essence during a technological revolution. Balam's passion for music was ignited in Ecuador, where a chance encounter with a Cuban percussionist during the Cuban immigration era inspired him. His explorative nature led him to Peru and back to Ecuador, where he organized local events using childhood connections. This marked the start of his ascent in the music world. Joining the Sonoro production team, he connected with influential underground artists like Oskar Offerman, Barac, Oshana, and Anthea, who later inspired his musical compositions. At 18, Balam moved to Chile to study music production at The Loft, collaborating with Chilean electronic scene luminaries such as Jim Hast, Daniel Nieto, DJ Wask, and Oportus. He released his debut, "Arena Negra," in 2019, earning acclaim for his distinctive sound—a fusion of abstract experimentation and pulsating energy. Balam's musical journey extends across Latin America and the United States, performing in countries like Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Chile, and the U.S. He has graced renowned clubs like La Vieja Escuela and held a residency at Club Eve in Chile. He has also played at festivals like Plurifest in Chile, Darwin's Lounge in the Galápagos, Club La Santa and Café Mosaico in Quito, Club Meit, and Zoko with the TNT event production team. His significant releases, such as the EP "Organismos," have gained international attention, reaching countries like Russia, Germany, Spain, and the United States, and leading to collaborations with artists like Andreas Linderman, 5 Universos, and Alejandro Soria. Balam has also performed at private events in Miami and venues like Bestiario in Tulum. Additionally, he founded Waves Online Academy, where he conducted numerous master classes in music production. With releases on important labels such as Aquarians, 0zone, and 7Productions, Balam continues to leave an indelible mark on the music scene, inspiring new artists and contributing to the vibrant sonic landscape of Latin America.
