AVGUSTIN BIOGRAPHY
Diverse and multidimensional, Bulgarian-based artist Avgustin introduces himself with the mantra 'music is a free expression of self-examination.'
Avgustin enthusiasm for music developed early in his life when his music teacher noticed his musicality at primary school and propelled him into the school choir in which he joined the tenor class, not long afterwards.
His initial encounters with electronic music were in his early teenage years when he came across a DeepDish (aka Dubfire & Sharam) tape. Hearing it regularly on the family's 90s stereo system, he remembers his first impression of house music, recalling 'Nothing could be quantified of the things experienced ... this moment remains with me because of the incredible energy introduced it's a touch, a sound, a state of mind of spiritual contact a magical connection through the real body with the greater power.'
Avgustin's appearance behind the DJ decks began in early 2013. Since then, the young DJ/ producer has developed an obsession for vinyl and electronic music. He is majorly inspired and continuously learning by the underground Romanian minimal scene aka rominimal. However, Avgustin draws guidance and influences from various artists including the most admired DJ/ producer in contemporary minimal techno
- Ricardo Villalobos alongside Craig Richards, the Romanian pioneers trio [a:rpia:r] and the founder of the Berlin-based minimal techno/ microhouse label Perlon- Zip, whose sounds brought him the proper direction to locate his music and persona. Being such a careful observer and listener has its benefits, so Avgustin's fascination for underground sound and culture had led him to fall in love with electronic music playing in clubs and festivals as well as in his own country, but also worldwide. The first establishment for electronic music in Bulgaria - Yalta Club, alongside the legendary Cacao Beach and Plazma, have become for Avgustin institutions of inspiration and places to establish his sound. Playing records at clubs and festivals around the globe, his gigs range from twice DJing at one of the biggest festivals in Romania AfterHills to the well-known Hopetosse in Berlin, from the Pratersauna club in Vienna to the underground techno Aether Club in Budapest, and from the notorious Sankey sessions and Zoo Project in Ibiza to the open-air Rainbow Seekers festival in Sri Lanka, allowing him to collect vinyl records from all over the world, discover new sounds and experiences. In recent years, Avgustin has shared the DJ booth with artists such as Arapu, Suciu, Cap, Art Department, Dewalta, Oshana, Ben Klock, Bill Patrick, Dubtil, Hector, Matthias Tanzmann, Priku, Steve Lawler, Ion Ludwig and plenty of others.
Avgustin is not hesitant to scour for parallels by jumping on the line between minimal micro-house and techno. When mixing genres in a trippy, logarithmic, seductive manner, he allows the audience to enter a comprehensive continuum, while not losing the moment and energy yet deep and rhythmic to the subconscious. His eclectic approach ranges through joyful broken beats to outrageously peculiar house both matched together with exceptional mixing accuracy. With an explosion of both sudden drops and head-spinning minimalistic baseline, every slight sensation is intensified through high contrast. His polished repertoire is always targeted at offering punchy beats, mixing grooves and distinction. Avgustin’s studio work and tremendous skills allowed him to release vinyl records for several labels, including Get Physical, Sanguina Records, Moan Recordings, BodyParts, Innocent Music and more. Confident and never frightened to go profound, you can find him spinning records at any time of the party and at any location. Don't be surprised when you suddenly find yourself dancing.
