Avalon Lurks
Biografía
Avalon Lurks creates haunting, '80s post-punk-inspired indie/house electronica as simply AVALON. She is also a visual artist who paints, and directs her own music videos with her strong sense of creative direction. The Santa Ana, California native of Mexican-American Chicano heritage, cites Depeche Mode, the Cure, and Arca as major influences, with output vividly echoing the house-y freestyle bounce of Dee-Lite through a gothic-wave lens that rivals EBM and electro sensibilities of artists like Miss Kitten. Modeling, acting and also recently a TV show host for a recent VICE documentary on Latin subcultures are amongst her interdisciplinary experiences under her belt, but music is Avalons’ first love. AVALON began uploading music to streaming sites as a teenager in 2014, beginning with the eerie synth instrumental "Plans Fall Through”, since building a dedicated following both mirrored online and through her live shows and DJ sets. In 2019 she co-produced the underground hit "Papi Chulo" with George Lewis Jr. ( A.K.A. Twin Shadow) and is currently busy writing and producing new music. She’s a staple in the underground rave scene as a versatile DJ – her recent Boiler Room appearance and coveted DJ slot opening for Wolfgang Tilmans art show catapulted her as one of the most in-demand artists behind the decks.
