Athie Umgido, originally from East London, South Africa, as made a profound impact in the dynamic AfroTech and Gqom music scene with his unique fusion of Afro-House rhythms and classic electro elements. As one half of a duo with his long-time friend Da Fresh Umgido, whom he met in their hometown of Mdantsane, Athie has captivated audiences globally with his innovative sound. Beginning his DJ career in 2006, Athie quickly became a trailblazer, leaving his mark on various cities. In 2016, he moved to Cape Town, where he refined his skills and graduated from Bridges Academy in 2019. As the resident DJ and producer of "The House Connect" on 5fm, Athie introduced audiences to fresh and exciting music, earning well-deserved recognition. Athie’s influence extends beyond music. His track was featured in the popular Netflix series "Jaiva," and his role as co-producer on Busiswa’s award-winning album earned accolades at the South African Music Awards 24, establishing him as a significant figure in the industry. His performances are celebrated for their ability to connect with audiences and deliver memorable sets. Notably, he managed the Ubuhlanti Stage at AfrikaBurn, where his set was dubbed the best of the event, and he also curated the stage lineup. In addition to his musical endeavors, Athie founded BFM Records under the Bridges For Music initiative. Through BFM Records, he has created a platform to discover and nurture emerging musical talent, contributing to the growth of the music scene. Athie’s innovative approach bridges the gap between established artists and rising stars. Athie is gearing up for a Euro Tour, which includes performances at Garbicz in Poland, Katerblau in Berlin, Wolvendoedel in Amsterdam, and studio sessions with top Berlin producers like Oliver Koletzki and Rodriguez Jr. His recent participation in the ADE cycle tour and performances at ADE, Hamburg Club Waagenbau, and Rise Berlin at Baalsal have further showcased his talent. Apart from his music career, Athie serves as an A&R and Content Manager for Bridges For Music, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young talent through music education and creative entrepreneurship. BFM's mission is to provide growth opportunities within underprivileged communities, inspiring and nurturing the next generation of artists and changemakers.
