apaull (www.apaull.com) is a dutch-canadian electronic music producer, focusing mostly on techno and house genres, with an occasional sprinkling of ambient music. What makes apaull unique is that he started producing and releasing music in his mid-fifties, after a successful career as an environmental scientist, business owner and academic (bit.ly/3j7DxgX). Music has always been a foundational part of apaull. His father was a professional musician, and his family musically talented. At a young age he had to learn how to play piano, at the conservatory level, as a gateway to be allowed to play his true musical love, the drums. After university apaull parked his musical ambitions to set about building a career as an environmental scientist and developing and ultimately selling an environmental consulting company. The drive it took achieve business and academic success (he finished a PhD in his mid-fifties) has been transported, hook, line and sinker, into music production. Unleashed from the suspended animation of musical inactivity apaull is heavily influenced by 80s and 90s electronic music, from the Orb to Skinny Puppy. These musical influences and ideas, carried around for so many years bleed into his music production. apaull’s musical philosophy, quite simply, is to produce high quality music that DJs and music listeners want to play. With time, consistency and some good fortune success will emerge. apaull produces his music almost exclusively “out of the box”. “Coming into music production when I did, I was amazed that I could produce music out of the same laptop that I use for everything else. There is incredible power in that.”. He has started to add various controllers and hardware to his music production flow including most recently the Cyclonic Analogic 303 Bassbot. In 2022 apaull released his first three EPs: “4Sol”, “mushMouth” and “Sans Phobia”, on the furnace room records label. All nine of these tracks were premiered on various internet radio shows, including Mutant Disco Radio and Abaddon. The “mushMouth”, “Sans Phobia”, “White LeBaron” and “Depths EPs” received positive reviews from Faze Magazin and others. 2022 press included interviews with Magnetic Magazine, Fifteen Questions and It Sounds Future. A January 2023 highlight was the track “Sans Phobia (original mix)” being included on techno DJ Dave Clarke’s internationally syndicated Whitenoise radio show. In May, 2023 apaull, in conjunction with the release of the “Depths” EP, was featured in full Faze Magazin and 6am interviews. Recognizing that he does not have the same time “runway” of someone in their 20s apaull has assembled a team of experts to help him on this musical journey. Legendary New York techno producer Abe Duque serves as apaull’s executive producer on all tracks. Hamburg’s Superstition Entertainment Network is responsible for all distribution. Berlin’s Pull Proxy promotes apaull’s music to a like-minded audience. apaull has been working to broaden and grow his audience by working with other more established artists and have them create remixes of his various tracks. To date, this has included Abe Duque, Thesis Sahib, Maedon, Developer and John Selway. 2023 releases include “White LeBaron” (March 2023), including Developer remixes and “Depths” (May 2023), including John Selway remixes. His debut album, “Fought and Won”, is set for release in December 2023. This will include the release of a series of singles/remixes, before and after this album release. Remixers include Dina Summer, Neil Landstrumm, Abe Duque and Ross Harper.
