Biografía

“For me, Whacking means community, authenticity, and radical self-expression. It teaches us life: to embrace our emotions and to show up—for ourselves and others.” Ana Selina is a passionate Whacking dancer who has been actively shaping the development of the German Whacking scene since 2017. Based in Berlin, she contributes to building and strengthening the community through regular classes, jams, intensives, as well as ongoing community and event work. She is co-founder of the non-profit organization to the floor e.V., co-organizer of the annual Whacking festival 4 to the floor, and co-initiator of the House and Whacking festival Jack & Pose. With 18 years of stage experience and over 1,000 hours of teaching experience, she organizes jams and battles and works internationally as a judge and instructor. Whacking, which originated from the dance style “Punking,” emerged in the 1970s in gay clubs in Los Angeles and was originally danced to funk music and created by underground BiPoC communities. Key inspirations for Punking included classic Hollywood black-and-white films and cartoons. Today, Whacking (also spelled Waacking) is strongly associated with disco music and is characterized by fast arm movements, a strong sense of drama, playfulness, and coordination.
