Amu (KR)
Biografía
amu is a Seoul-based DJ/producer who deals with electronic music mainly focusing on techno and ambient genres. She relays experiences of unpleasantness and miscommunication through her productions.
amu's personal experience of anxiety and fear leading to actual physical pain have led to motivating her for sharing 'senses' through music. Including the sound of pounding the body, the ambiance such as submerging into the water, and the sound of the hair-raising sense of the back, her music is embodied as a substance with physical properties, leaving a sense of lingering rather than emotional lingering.
As the co-founder/director of the Seoul's first underground house/techno channel “textures.”, amu has been curating her texture to the people in Seoul. “amu selects” series introduced notable techno tracks/artists combining with the scenery of Seoul as a video. The “amu selects” series illuminates the local techno scene through the first volume and the overseas techno through the second volume.
Also, amu has been throwing a rave party "txtrs." under the sponsorship of Mixmag and Tsingdao, creating Seoul's own culture of rave. This party invites international techno artists such as Shlomo and Peja. amu's narrative DJ sets can be found around Seoul's notable clubs such as Contra, Beton Brut, and Modeci.
As a music director, amu focuses on materializing her sound into the exhibit such as dancer’s bodywork. Her recent work is the performance , performed by contemporary modern dance crew 'Salon de casse' led by a choreographer Yang Seung-jin. With co-music director KONA, amu showcased a live set of their music for 70 minutes. Starting with the background music work for the Korean art collective eobchae's exhibition, , and the work for the media artist Nahee Kim's interactive dance performance has become a springboard.
After participating in various compilations such as [Konimeter] and [Plastic People], amu is planning to release her first personal work as a producer in September. Her EP [Era], a mix of the ambient track and the techno track, is based on an eye-catching view of the beginning and end of the era with the theme of tactile images of flowing water. The entire 20-minute EP music video produced in collaboration with art director Ji Se-yun, videographer Kim Kyung-ho and dancer Choi Joy will also be released.
