Ali's uniquely maximalist musical sensibility point’s directly to their textured and dynamic upbringing from the Middle East to New Orleans. Their time producing and reissuing records at world renowned label Numero Group entrenched them in the art of digging, not necessarily just for rare records but for good ones - records that deserved new life and recontextualisation. As a student of dance music history and club culture across the ages, Ali synthesizes new and old school stylings into their sets, narrativizing dramatic dance floor arcs that leave you curious for more, breaking the mould of underwhelming dance floors and imploring a closing of the perceived spacial gap between dancer and DJ. In 2021, Ali threw the first Pleasure Club at a dive bar in Avondale and the rest is history. They now act as Podlasie Club’s co-director of programming, with the intent to contribute to the rich ecosystem that is the Chicago dance scene. They’re currently working on a compendium à la mixtape and club night entitled PHLIRT; inspired by the musical freedom that permeated through the British counter culture movement in the late eighties and early nineties - where acid house, techno, balearic, EBM and new wave all collided in a beautiful explosion of liberatory dance.
