It’s not hard to find Al’s productions popping up in DJ sets all across the scene. Midland’s Dekmantel Boiler Room, Gilles Peterson’s 6 Music show, Leon Vynehall’s BBC Essential Mix, Denis Sulta’s Mixmag Cover mix, the list goes on. Through consistent spins in the sets of the industries most revered DJ’s, Al has cemented his reputation as a go to for fun, genre bending productions that always deliver on a dancefloor. So much so that Roy Davis Jr decided to bring back his classic Chicago label Undaground Therapy Muzik after 16 years to release Al’s music - the 2018 Guidance EP. In summer 2023 Al is returning to the label, alongside edits and releases coming out digitally and on vinyl. His track Long Gone recently surpassed 3 million streams on Spotify. As a DJ, Zanders sets are known for being full of fun, energy and soul. Whether it’s a small basement club in Tokyo, a large festival such as Lost Village or Gotwood, where he was described as a highlight, or a well established venue such as XOYO - Al’s known for joining the dots between deep, soulful house and disco originating from around the globe, ranging from Italo, South African, Anatolian, American and much more. Having this unrestricted and in the moment attitude to playing music is a trademark of the city where Al first learnt and fell in love with DJing, Sheffield. Although now based in London, Sheffield is still the base of operations for his much loved label A-Z Records, which like his DJing is diverse and unafraid in its output. For instance the first release on the label, described as a ‘classic’ by esteemed London promoter Tuckshop, was a dancefloor heavy reworking of Sheffield brass band Hot Diamond Aces, whereas the latest release ventured into the world of IDM and cosmic disco with Sangre Voss, which got the love from Ben UFO, Lena Wilikens and more. Mixmag, Resident Advisor, Boiler Room and DJMag have all supported and pushed music from the imprint. After a short break following a brief hiatus, Al is back with a string of back to back releases across various imprints in 2023 and beyond, proving he's really only just starting.
